    Notice to our Customers

New York COVID-19 State of Emergency and Your Electric Service.

  3. This is a mandated notice to advise you of some new laws established in New York that impact your electric service. These laws were enacted in response to the COVID-19 pandemic state of emergency declared by Governor Cuomo. The laws apply to our residential and small business customers.

  4. The following is a summary of the laws and is applicable to residential and small business customers:

    1. The NY COVID-19 state of emergency officially ended on June 24, 2021. During the state of emergency, all disconnects and terminations for non-payment were on hold. We are now in a 180 Day post moratorium period that began on 6/24/2021 and ends on 12/21/2021.

    2. During a period of 180-days after the state of emergency expires, or as extended by the Governor, we will not terminate or disconnect services because of non-payment of past due amounts due to a COVID-19 related financial hardship incurred during the state of emergency. Please contact us if you have experienced a change in your financial circumstances due to the COVID-19 pandemic that affects your ability to pay. In such cases, we will offer you the opportunity to pay your past-due bills over time, without requiring a down payment, late fees or penalties.

    3. These protections apply only to disconnection for non-payment resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. They do not protect customers from disconnection for other causes (such as dangerous conditions, illegal or fraudulent use of the service).

    4. Customers can complete and submit the self-certification of COVID-19 hardship form on the back of this notice at www.freeportelectric.com or by stopping in at our customer service office at 46 N. Ocean Ave., Freeport, NY 11520.

If you require further assistance, our customer service office is available Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. by calling 516-377-2262 or email accountservices@freeportelectric.com
